Our Final Advert

This is our final product for our advert, we tried to include every convention used by other adverts we researched to create the most proffessional look for the advert inticing the public to buy the digipak.

Our Digipak

Evaluation Task 4

Firstly, using the internet was a crucial part of research for us, by looking at the conventions of a typical music video, and then the typical conventions used by our chosen artists to create our music video.

After researching and then planning our music video we went out to film several scenes to create our film.

Using i-movie HD we then started to edit our music video, to then realise we didn't have enough shots we wanted to create our fast pace music video.

After realising we didn't have the clips to create our final piece we again went out to film more, to get enough clips to show our understanding of our artists (The Prodigy) conventions to their own music videos.

In between each process we documented our progress and faults on blogger.com to show our progress throughout the process. Then uploaded our film to YouTube for all to see and our blog.

Shot List

This being one of our first images in the music video is an example of a Long Shot. We used the long shot to help establish the scene.

Here we felt it was appropriate to use a high angle shot looking down on the gravestone and animal mask.

This is an example of a point of view shot. This shotwas used to give the image that he is being followed. We felt this was used effectively.

Here is a close up shot. A close up is used to focus on the shot. We decided to use a close up to highlight the words of 'No trespassers', which followed the theme of our music video.

This shot here is an example of a low angle shot. The low angle shot focused on the running of the character and gave a different view, helping us to use a wide variety of shots.

Evaluation Activity 2

This shows the front and back of our digipak. We researched into digipaks before and there are certain things we wanted to include. We felt it was important we had strong image on the front that would relate to our production. Therefore we used a still frame from our music video. We chose the shot with the fire because we felt it defined our music video very well, because it included the animal masks and the fire influence our video, creating an image exactly what we were looking for. The back cover we took influence from the original invaders must die album. We felt the dark colours and use of font was very appropriate to the prodigy and tied in very much with our music video. We also included a barcode, to make it recognisable as a digipak.

This is the inside of our digipak. For the inside covers we also felt it was appropriate to use still frames for our prodction. We chose shots that were in black and white and took place in a rural environment. They were strong images inside our production so we wanted to include them. There is also a little pouch which holds a booklet involving song lyrics and the Prodigy biography. The use of dark colours throughout the digipak continues the trend of the dark image created in our music video.

This is our advertisement. Following the themes of the aniclillary tasks, we used the front cover of our digipak for our advert. We felt the image of the front of the dgipak would be useful as an advert, as people would get drawn to the advert by seeing the album cover. We also included reviews by various magazines, which are also persuasive to encourage people to buy the album. The same themes are seen throughout our ancillary tasks.

Planning for advertisement

This is the plan for our advert. We decided we wanted to use a still frame for our picture, same as the digipak. We just felt the still frame was a strong image to use. This picture is the same as the album cover. I felt the best advert was using the album cover, and writing over the picture. So we have an advert which uses the album cover, and has reviews on top, and the date of when the album comes out.

Evaluation Activity 1

This shot here shows the use of costume in our music video. We wanted to create an abstract take on the music video, and felt these animal masks made this possible. We used them hoping they would be creepy in the video, rather than funny. We feel as a group they created the correct image that we wanted them to, and feel they worked well in the video.

We chose this shot to emphasise the remote setting we used. Throughout the music video, there was some urban settings used, however we felt it was important to start the music video in a secluded setting, such asFyfield, which is shown in this screenshot. The secluded setting ties in with the conventions, as the masks were used to create fear. The secludedness shows the vulnerability, and therefore works well in our music video. We originally planned to shift from a rural to urban setting, but found problems filming in an urban environment. We therefore changed the video to a transition from day to night. We were happy with how it worked in the final product.

We thought this shot worked well to show special effects that we used in the editing stage of our coursework. We used these special effect to make an abstract image which would cohere with our video. We wanted to make an abstract video, and by changing the colour effects, it followed the abstract theme.

In our video, we decided it would not work to use performance, we decided to go fully for an abstract video, with no performance. We felt performance would not suit the big beat genre, so we did not include any, and made it all abstract. There were also no words, so performance would of been harder to include in our production.

This shot shows the editing techniques used in our musicvideo. We wanted to reverse some clips to go with the beat. We feel we were successful in this shot, when we reversed a clip on somebody jumping, and reversed so he was jumping backwards. This was very effective for our abstract music video.

This shot shows our research into the artist previous videos and styles. The use of the animal mask adds an eery and abstract view to the video. Previous videos from the prodigy were shown to use such things as animals to portray them, and we felt the animal mask worked well to show the danger and portray the song.

This shot here shows the style of our music video. This sign post is used commonly in the prodigyvideos, highlighting the abstract image we were trying to get across in our music video. The use of the words 'No trespassers' also ties in with the style of the video. It fits in with the costumes and settings used.

This chosen shot shows the camera work. We felt the lighting in this shot was important, and it was framed well to show the effects of the lighting. This shot was used to highlight the transition from day to night, and this shot was used to highlight the danger of the dark. We felt it was important how it was framed to show the danger of this.

This shot shows camera work. We decided to place the camera in a high position so the shot was framed to look as if it is a CCTV shot. We placed it in a position and left it to film and we were happy with how it looked after.

Final Digipak Product

After our planning stage we created our actual final product digipak. Using our information on the Prodigy we created the booklet on the inside, and using stills from our music video created our covers for the digipak.

Throughout the digipak I choose to keep the same colour pattern throughout, so for the back cover I decided to use colours red and black, black is used thought the digipk but I decided to use red as it will go with the colours of the fire on the front cover. I also added images that are linked to the band such s the spider; I added the bands name and a bar code so that it will be able to be sold in shops. On the back cover we have illustrations of what’s on both discs, for example disc one being the album showing all the tracks on the disc and disc 2 being the music video.

This image shows the digipak once it has all been opened up, ive used images from the music video as backgrounds on each section of the digipak, I have s section for disc one and disc 2, for the album and music video. I have also decided to make a section where a booklet will be held which holds information such as ‘Reviews, Song Lyrics and Artist Biography’. I have kept to the colour scheme of black and white throughout the digipak, which is shown in the sections once the digipak is opened up.

This is the front cover of the digipak, I’ve decided to use an image from the music video. I have the name of the band and the name of the album on the front cover. I decided to use the image from the fire scene of the music video as I feel the bright colours will attract passing customer in shops to help sell the digipak. I have kept the colour scheme of black going through the whole digipak which Is also on the front cover.

This is an example of an album advertisement. This advert uses the albyum cover in the advert, but supports it with the date, and other information which includes:

-What the album consists of

-Website name

-Reviews

-Name of the Album

Digipak Planning

This is our planning for our digipak, after we chose the pictures we wished to use for our front cover etc, i drew them out in order that they would be used.

Lesson review

Last lesson we completed our digipak. We manually made it, all we need to do is take some pictures of the digipak and put it onto the blog, explaining why we used certain things and why we didn't use certain things. Once the post with the completed digipak is on the blog, we can then complete our advert, for which we already have many ideas for. We looked into the conventions and we know what we are going to use for our advert.

Conventions of adverts

As we need to put together an advert for our music video, we needed to do research in the conventions of adverts. The typical conventions of an advert would include such things as:
- colour scheme to match the genre of your video
- images of the band/production
- eye catching image
- name of album/band
- reviews of the album
- short simple words to describe the album

Digipak designs

After thought on our digipak design we have thought about using stills from our music video to be used as the 6 images in our album.

- This is what we want to use as our front cover, we chose a colour shot to entice the audience and emphasise the genre.

- We also chose the inside covers specifically. We chose to use the 'waste oil' image to go underneath the compact disk. We thought this image would work hidden away until revaled. The contrast used in this image shows a powerful image, tying in with our video.

We also have the four other shots, however we have not yet decided on a certain order of appearance for these images. This will be decided once we edit these images ad add titles etc to the images.

Filming Day 4

Our original idea for the music video was to create the transition from a rural environment to a urban environment slowly throughout our music video. However, once we were filming and got our first bit of footage on to i-movie, we decided this was not realistic. Our ideas to move to a urban environment were unrealistic and something we could not produce. Therefore, as a group we decided to make the movement in our video from day to night. This worked perfectly with the clips we already had and the idea made sense to us. But once we had filmed everything and edited, the transition was not obvious, so we had to go back out very late at night, when the streets were empty to film the last bit of our video. We struggled at times with lighting, but in the end we were happy with the transition from day time to night time.

Didgpak production

We are now in the production stage of our digipak. As a group we have come together and chose a number of images of which we want to produce and use on our digipak. The images used have been carefully chosen to represent the song/artist of our chosen music video. We will now put these images together to complete the creation of our digipak.
